Rise of Lenin and the Russian Civil War In 1917, led by Vladmir Lenin, the Bolsheviks soon took power after the Russian revolution immediately turning the government into a communist “dictatorship of the proletariat” and promising : Peace, Land, and Bread 1918-1921, the country erupted into civil war, as many people resisted the new policies of the Czar such as the take over of private land and companies
