3 Let the Revolutions begin!
Industrialization Steel - 4th largest in the world Foreign investors supported the Trans-Siberian RR Movement grows Horrible working conditions due to the growth of industry created issues between workers and management = strikes! -These disagreements created revolutionary groups such as Marxist revolutionaries

4 Revolutionary group splits
Marxists followers Create a proletariat- the workers rule the country The Marxist group splits Mensheviks- moderate group wanted the popular vote Bolsheviks- radical group led by Lenin Lenin left Russia in the early 1900’s because of the Czar regime, but he kept in contact with the Bolsheviks. Issues at home- showed the czar’s weaknesses and paved the way for a revolution The Russo-Japanese War Bloody Sunday- workers rights = death WWI Alexandra lends her trust to Rasputin

5 The Father of the Revolution
Czar steps down Provisional gov’t. set up It becomes undermined by the soviets Lenin returns Germans send him home in a sealed RR car Why? Bolsheviks in Power Peace, Land and Bread Lenin’s slogan

6 Lenin takes action Provisional Government Topples Bolsheviks in Power
Bolsheviks called the Red Guards stormed the city of Petrograd and removed Kerensky and his colleagues Bolsheviks in Power All farmland be distributed amongst the peasants Gave control of the factories to the workers 1918 Treat of Brest-Litovsk- gave land to the Germany Many Russians very upset with the aggressive moves made by Lenin This leads to a Civil War

7 Bolsheviks and Their New Challenge
And in this Corner….the White Army The white army was made up of anybody who did not approve of Lenin They were given support by many outsiders, but could not beat the Red Army and their leader Leon Trotsky Civil War very deadly 14 million Russian’s died in 3 years Red Army won Significance- Bolsheviks were able both to seize power and maintain it!

8 Lenin’s Vision New Economic Reform Political Reform
New economic policy- smaller idea of capitalism Allowed small factories, businesses and farms to operate under private ownership to allow the flow of currency again By 1928, Russia was at its economic level before WWI Political Reform Lenin created the USSR Split the country up to keep nationalism down Renamed the Bolshevik party to the communist party He created a DICTATORSHIP out of his reforms Stalin would take over after Lenin’s stroke.
