Subject-Verb Agreement with Compound Subjects

What is a compound subject? Two or more subjects that have the same verb

How do you know it is plural? Look at the way the subjects are joined If they are joined using and both…and the subject is plural, so a plural verb is needed.

Examples of Plural Compound Subject Both a grizzly bear and a bobcat live near here. Robert and Charlotte spot them.

How do you know if it is singular or plural? Look at the way the subjects are joined If they are joined using or nor either…or neither…nor the verb must agree with the subject that is CLOSEST to it (the second subject).
