Tips to Help Your Child With Fine Motor Skills Work together on activities which require finger coordination and dexterity. organize small beads or other small objects string a bead necklace practice cutting paper practice holding pencils and writing or coloring work with play-doh cut pictures from magazines

Social Skills Does your child… Use words instead of being physical when angry? Comply with rules, limits and routines? Play with other children? Express feelings and needs so others can understand? Wait for turn/share? Transition from one activity to another when directed? Comfortably separate from his/her parents?

Tips to Help Your Child Develop Their Social Skills To help your child develop their social skills talk with your child about what interests him/her. Ask questions that have more than one answer such as : “What do you think?” “How would you feel?” Take time to listen to your child.

Reading/Writing Does your child… Know the letters of the alphabet and some of their sounds? Recognize his/her name in print? Write his/her name? Read stories (pretend to read by reading the pictures) to you? Attempt to invent his/her own spelling?

Tips for Reading and Writing To help your child get ready to read and write, the most important thing you can do is read, read, read! Read to and with your child. Make reading a part of the family routine. Talk with your child about the story. Ask your child about sounds in words. Point out text in the environment (signs, cereal boxes, stores, restaurants). Explore forming letters using play-doh, dry erase boards, shaving cream, paint etc.

Math Does your child… Recognize numbers 0-10? Write numbers 0-10? Count objects? Recognize basic shapes? Create groups of up to 10 objects?

Tips for Math To help your child get ready for kindergarten math, give them plenty of opportunities to work with numbers. Point out numbers in the environment (clocks, signs, address etc.) Math games such as number bingo, hopscotch, number memory, number puzzles, and counting games are great ways to enhance your child’s math skills while adding a touch of fun!

504/Medical Plans It is important for staff to meet with you if your child has one or more of the following: If you cannot adjust giving medication to your child around the school day. If your child has an allergy and requires medication. If your child attended preschool and has a 504 Plan or Medical Plan. Also, you may be contacted by your child's teacher if anyone in the classroom has a food allergy. The teacher and parent will provide a snack list safe for the classroom.
