Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 1929-1968

Michael Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15th Atlanta 1929

King grew up in the church, he decided to become a minister.

Dr. King married Coretta Scott on June 18, 1953.

Dr. King believed all people were equal no matter what color their skin was.

Rosa Parks also believed that everyone should be treated the same. She sat in the front of the bus. Some people did not like it. She did not care.

Dr. King organized sit-in’s at restaurants Dr. King organized sit-in’s at restaurants. He believed everyone should be able to eat together.

Dr. King became the leader of the Civil Rights Movement.

He fought for equal rights for black Americans.

Dr. King made many great speeches. This is the last speech he ever made.

Dr. King went to jail many times for what he believed in.

King spoke to 250,000 civil rights supporters during the “March on Washington” August 28, 1963.

Dr. King made his famous “I have a dream” speech.

Many people did not like what Dr. King was trying to say Many people did not like what Dr. King was trying to say. He was threatened in his own home. Dr. King did not let anything or anyone stop him.

On December 10, 1965, Dr. King won the Nobel Peace Prize.

On April 4, 1968, while standing on a balcony at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, King was killed by James Earl Ray.

The country and his family was very sad about his death.
