AO Regional Meeting 11/13/2018 The Value of C-ID Offers students the opportunity to “swirl” and “move” more easily (similar to how CAN did)- even more important today Identifies the essential common components of a course (positive outcomes: accreditation efforts, inform curriculum reviews and updates, assist new faculty) Descriptors are detailed enough to serve as the basis for articulation CAN = California Articulation Number. CAN ceased to be funded as of 2005 and has been phased out. The excerpt below was taken from http://www.ohlone.edu/core/numberingsystem.html and modified. CAN The California Articulation Number (CAN) System was a statewide numbering system independent from course numbers assigned by local colleges. A CAN number signals that participating California colleges and universities have determined that courses offered by other campuses are equivalent in content and scope to courses offered on their own campuses, regardless of their unique titles or local identifying numbers. Thus, if a schedule of classes or catalog listed a course bearing a CAN number, students on one campus can be assured that it will be accepted in lieu of the comparable CAN course noted in the catalog or schedule of classes of another campus. For example, CAN ECON 2 on one campus will be accepted as meeting the requirement of the designated CAN ECON 2 course on other participating community college or university campuses. 11/13/2018

When descriptors are finalized ENCOURAGE faculty to submit their courses When the CCC faculty agree to accept C-ID’d courses in lieu of their native course, AO submits CoR to the C-ID website If a course had a TCSU number and the descriptor is now in C-ID, there is no need to submit CoR if the CCC AO indicates that a C-ID designation is desired 11/13/2018
