1 Curriculum Committee Orientation

2 Official Charge Coordinate curriculum changes, additions, and revisions Communicate these changes to the college through faculty members and staff representing CCC departments and divisions

3 Other Responsibilities of Committee
Give initial approval to new/changed courses/programs Address requirements for transfer/non-transfer degrees/certificates Promote articulation between CCC and K-12, other CCs, and 4 year institutions Reflect policies of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and other relevant agencies NOTE: The catalog reflects the college’s curriculum activities on campus.

4 Membership Two permanent members: Eight members without fixed terms
Instructional Dean (Scott Giltz) Enrollment Services Dean (Diane Drebin) Eight members without fixed terms Remainder: three year terms Note: Faculty agreement, Article 17B: “The college therefore agrees to offer a majority membership of faculty on committees whose primary role involves course content and instruction” including “the Curriculum Committee.”

5 Member Responsibilities
Helping areas of representation prepare and submit forms and course/program outlines to the committee. Communicating with their areas of representation concerning upcoming topics, questions, and items to be addressed, as well as special concerns of the areas of representation. Maintaining the Related Instruction pages in catalog - CCC must stay in compliance with state regulations.

6 More Member Responsibilities
Ensuring that proposed certificate and degree programs meet state and Northwest Accreditation standards, as well as CCC regulations concerning Computation, Communication, Human Relations, PE/Health. Keeping in compliance with all degrees, certificates and/or credentials. Examining proposed programs and checking that all Related Instruction and other requirements are included. Being aware of catalog production timelines regarding changes in programs and course catalog copy.

7 Members’ Communication Responsibilities
Reporting to the committee all catalog and course equivalency updates from areas of representation. Reporting initial approval of new programs/courses to areas of representation. Communicating between our committee, President’s Council, College Council, Faculty Senate, and any other relevant groups.

8 More Communication Responsibilities
Regularly distributing curriculum committee meeting minutes to all department chairs and instructional administrators. Submitting memos as needed to appropriate persons. Making regular requests for input from appropriate staff. Providing opportunities for staff members to address the committee at their request.

9 What should be brought to Curriculum Committee?
Requests to include a course in the AAOT and ASOT requirements. Requests to include a course or remove a course from the Related Instruction page in the catalog. New Professional/Technical certificate and degree programs. Changes to existing Professional/Technical certificate and degree programs.

10 More “What Should Be Brought?”
New courses All course changes, including changes in title, number, or credits, will be brought forward to the committee as a Consent Calendar item for approval. Changes in prerequisites to courses which are required in other programs. Changes to courses which other departments use in their degrees or certificates. Articulation Agreements

11 When should you bring it to Curriculum Committee?
Any documents to be presented to curriculum committee should be submitted to Lynda no later than the Friday before the next regularly scheduled meeting. To be included in next year’s catalog, new courses/programs must be approved by Curriculum Committee by the end of FALL term.

12 How does the course approval process work?
Department s the new course forms and outlines to Lynda Lynda adds the documents to the website Alice adds the courses, programs, etc. to the agenda Presenters bring them to CC meetings A presenter is someone who signs the form and understands the class being presented.

13 What does Lynda do? Records the activity of the Curriculum Committee (meeting minutes) Maintains and implements the instructional approval process as required by the state Interfaces with the state for those approvals and changes.

14 What should the Curriculum Committee Chair do?
Communicate with the college— Send draft and final agendas to Curriculum Committee members Send out meeting reminders Run the meetings

15 How should members carry out their duties?
Read the Handbook for Committee Members at Read the agenda before each meeting Read the documents before the meeting Inform the people in the areas you represent of changes in processes, procedures, forms, and/or deadlines, and assist them with timely submission of forms
