Filter Changing Procedures For TEOM Series 1400ab and Model 8500 FDMS (B & C Types)

Before you start: You need to have: Spare Blue Filter Cartridge Tweezers Pall Flex 47mm diameter Media (a.k.a EMFAB) Clean Petri Dish or re-sealable polythene bag Always work in a clean, dry environment.

Filter Preparation Separate the two halves of the filter cartridge and remove the spent filter and store or discard as required. Do not use a screwdriver or similar tool for this operation. It will damage the cartridge.

Filter Preparation Check steel screen is clean and undamaged. Check both halves of cartridge for nicks and chips. If damaged discard and replace.

Filter Preparation Take new filter from supply box using tweezers and place carefully into the lower half of the filter cartridge. Never touch a new filter with your fingers. The filter should have the dull textured side upwards and the woven shiny side toward the steel screen.

Filter Preparation

Fit the upper ring and press firmly down onto a clean dry surface to seal.

Filter Preparation Put the cartridge into the polythene bag or Petri dish containing a silica gel desiccant and seal to prevent contamination or uptake of moisture. Do not remove it until ready to fit to the FDMS.

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter Press 14 and then Enter on the TEOM control unit keyboard. This will bring up a special display showing the current operating mode of the FDMS. The unit MUST be in BASE mode before proceeding, if not wait till it changes from REF mode to BASE mode before proceeding or Press F8 to force change.

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter Switch the power to the FDMS module OFF to lock the system in BASE mode. The power can be switched off on the rear panel using the switch above the power cord or at the wall outlet.

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter C Type - Open the access door on the left side of the FDMS module by releasing the black thumbscrew. Firmly grip and turn the grey seal anti-clockwise to release it. B Type – Open front door, press and detach tubing connector and unscrew filter holder anticlockwise

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter Remove the blue filter cartridge and replace with a new pre-prepared one. Place the cartridge into the holder with the steel screen against the inner chamber and the filter media facing outwards. B Type C Type

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter Using a tissue carefully wipe away any moisture which might be present in and around the filter chamber making sure no loose fibres or tissue are left behind.

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter C Type - Check the condition of the V seal and if damaged either replace it or report it to CMCU. B Type – Check flat sealing ring and o ring and if damaged replace it or report it to CMCU

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter C Type - Replace the grey seal cap with the cartridge inside and turn to lock. B Type – Screw filter holder firmly into place and attach tubing connector Close the access door and secure with the thumbscrew or latch. NOTE. The time the seal is open to atmosphere should be minimised to prevent condensation forming on the cold surfaces.

At Site: Changing FDMS 47mm Filter Switch ON the FDMS power.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Check the control unit is still in DATA STOP mode. (S in mode display) if not press DATA STOP again.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Open the sensor outer door and open the sensor block by releasing the latch.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Using the filter exchange tool carefully remove the used filter from the end of the tapered element by pulling gently and directly upwards. DO NOT LEVER OR TURN THE FILTER TOOL as this could damage the tapered element.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Discard or store the spent filter from the exchange tool. Pick up a new filter from one of the two storage pins on the sensor platform.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Place the new filter onto the tapered element using the tool. When in position push the tool directly downward to secure the filter onto the tip of the tapered element.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Using the filter exchange tool take a new filter from the box and place it onto the free storage pin. Close the box and re-seal it in the bag with the desiccant pouch and store inside the sensor housing.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Close the sensor block and secure with the latch.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Check the vacuum gauge and note the value. The vacuum should ideally be better than - 20 Hg. Acceptable performance is usually between -18 to -24 Hg. If less than -18 Hg report this to CMCU as this indicates the pump is in need of service or replacement.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter Press RUN or F1 on the TEOM Control unit and check that the mode changes from S to 1 Check that the RED Status lamp on the front panel goes out after a few minutes.

At Site: Changing TEOM Sensor Filter After a few minutes the mode will change through 2, 3 and then 4 indicating that the system is again in normal operation. This usually takes minutes but can be up to 30 minutes depending on system status.
