Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Sentek Sensor Technologies Installation of EasyAG 50 and EasyAG 80

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Items required for EasyAG Installation : EasyAG 50 or EasyAG 80 probe complete Soil sampling auger EasyAG installation kit -Stabilization plate -Polyguide -Long pins -Short pins -Dolley -Dolley rubber

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Normalizing the EasyAG ® probe 1.Connect to the logger with your PC and set up a new database or edit an existing database using the EnviroSCAN ® software (refer to Software Manual) 2.Connect to the logger with your PC and set up a new database or edit an existing database using the EnviroSCAN ® software (refer to Software Manual)

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Normalizing the EasyAG ® probe 3.Hold the EasyAG ® probe out in free air by the top cap to obtain air counts 4.Place the EasyAG ® probe in a large container full of water (at least 15 cm or 6 inch diameter of water around access tube at all sensor depths) to obtain water counts

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Assembling the stabilization brace 1.The stabilization brace can be used on flat ground and raised soil beds 2.Select the short stabilization brace pins for flat ground and long stabilization brace pins for raised beds Long pins Short pins

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Fixing the stabilization brace on flat ground 1.Place stabilization brace on ground 2.Insert short stabilization brace pins through the holes in the stabilization brace 3.Drive the stabilization brace pins all the way into the ground 4.Put the soil sampler polyguide in place

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Fixing the stabilization brace on raised soil beds 1.Insert the long stabilization brace pins into the holes in the stabilization brace 2.Tighten wing nuts with light finger pressure 3.Place assembled stabilization brace on the ground directly above the required position of the probe

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd 4.Apply gentle pressure directly onto stabilization brace to force pins into ground 5.Using sledgehammer alternately beat hitting points on stabilization brace to force it closer to ground 6.The stabilization brace should be firm to the ground without causing significant soil compression

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd 7.Insert the soil sampler polyguide

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Preparing the hole: 1.Insert the AMS™ soil sampler and force downward in a single smooth action 2.Use a sledgehammer to beat the AMS™ soil sampler until the base of the head protrudes by 25 cm for the EasyAG 50, or until the base of the head touches the stabilization plate for the EasyAG 80

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Preparing the hole: 3.Turn the AMS™ soil sampler one complete rotation 4.Carefully lift the AMS™ soil sampler directly out of the ground NOTE: If you experience difficulties at this point, remove the soil sampler in stages or obtain extra assistance to avoid back injury

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Assembling the EasyAG ® probe: Attach the cutting tip to the base of the probe with firm pressure. No glue is required

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Inserting the access tube: 2.Insert the probe into the stabilization brace and push into the ground in a single gentle movement 3.As the probe enters the prepared hole, it shaves off a residue that is eventually stored in the cutting tip at the base of the hole 1.Remove the lid of the top cap and extract the electronics. Place electronics to one side. Feed cable through FairRite Bead an cable gland into top cap.

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Inserting the access tube: 4.Place the dolly rubber onto the dolly, insert the EasyAG ® dolly into the top cap and position it on top of the internal access tube. Position the dolly rubber inside the top cap to hold the dolly firmly in place. 5.Continue to insert probe using a sledgehammer to hit on the dolly until there is a 2.5 cm (1 inch) gap between the base of top cap and edge of the stabilization brace tube guide

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Inserting the access tube: 6.Remove all of the stabilization brace wing nuts and remove the stabilization brace pins 7.Separate both halves of the stabilization brace and remove

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Inserting the access tube: 8.Continue tapping the EasyAG ® dolly with the sledgehammer until the base of the top cap is level with the ground NOTE: This will place the top sensor 10 cm (3.9 inches) below the ground surface

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Inserting the electronics: 1.Re-install the sensor circuitry and attach the connector or attach wiring as required 2.Tighten the cable gland and seal around the inside threaded section with silicone glue

Sentek Training Presentation © 2003 All rights reserved Sentek Pty Ltd Fitting the top cap lid: 1.Replace the lid of the top cap 2.Ensure that the sealing gasket is in good condition and positioned correctly 3.Tighten screws completely to ensure an effective seal
