NATIONAL 5 PHYSICAL EDUCATION CYCLE OF ANALYSIS!

What is the cycle of analysis? Useful for analysing and developing performance. A way of collecting information in an organised way. Identify and assess specific aspects of your performance. There are four stages: Investigate, Analyse, Develop, Evaluate.

Investigate Performance The Cycle of Analysis Investigate Performance Analyse Performance Develop Performance Evaluate Performance

Reflections on your own performance INVESTIGATE How do I investigate my performance? I must collect information about my performance. I can collect this information by using one of the following methods: Observation Schedule Video Analysis Reflections on your own performance Knowledge of results Match analysis sheets

ANALYSE What do I do with the information I have collected? I want to find out where my strengths and weaknesses are. To do this I must use my knowledge of performance to analyse the information. How do I analyse my performance? I can compare the data I have gathered to that of a MODEL PERFORMER or against NATIONAL AVERAGES/NORMS.

What is a model performer? A model performer is someone who can show the perfect way in which a skill or technique should be performed. It can be a coach/video/peer/role model. What does it look like? Skills performed at the right time Skills performed consistently well Skills look effortless. Skills are performed fluently and with control. 5. Skills are performed confidently Performer can make decisions under pressure 7. There are few unforced errors.

DEVELOP Now I know where my strengths and weaknesses are, what can I do to improve my weaknesses? I need to choose appropriate methods of training (fitness) or methods of practice (skills/techniques).

EVALUATE After training for a period of time, how do I know if I have improved my weakness? I could retest using the same method of data collection I used during the investigation stage. I could then compare the two and see whether or not I had improved. This retest will also allow me to identify how effective my training was. It will also allow me to work out if the training needs to be made more challenging or not.
