EVALUATING TRANSFER CREDIT Segment Perspectives IEPI Evaluators Training Workshop February 2017

General Guidelines for Transferability CSU: Determined by CCC faculty for CCC courses Verified by CSU Admissions for non-CCC courses UC: Determined by UC faculty policy, regardless of origin

ACCREDITATION REQUIRED! Regional Accreditation National Accreditation International: Ministries of Education Distance Learning Programs Occupational Programs

RECENCY (Age of a course) Apply caution with courses required for specific major programs involving computer technology or software, and business; they may become outdated and be unacceptable. No systemwide policy, but some campuses have local policies to ensure up to date knowledge necessary to ensure student success in these type of program.

UNIT VALUES Watch for potential shortage in overall GE units Mixed: semester v. quarter – convert to one type

UPPER DIVISION: CSU After transfer, LD courses approved for UD requirements earn UD content credit but LD units. UD courses used in ADTs transfer as UD units. 60 transferable unit minimum based on both LD & UD

UPPER DIVISION: UC In general no UD unit credit awarded for two-year college courses. UD course units (awarded from a 2-yr or 4-yr institution are additive to LD maximum unit credit. UC’s Lower Division Maximum Credit Policy see UC’s Quick Reference for Counselors 2016 guide pg. 32
