President’s Message August 5,2009 Dear RNS Members and Friends,   Dear RNS Members and Friends, HOT, HOT, and more HOT! HOT weather, HOT tempers, and HOT Topics. Where do I start? HOT Weather: What does any reasonable person do in times like these? Why of course, they pack up and leave for vacation. And where to? But to the Colorado River by Needles/Laughlin where the temperature was 125 degrees! Those that say you can't take it with you never saw a car packed for a vacation trip. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that it is “dry heat” in the desert! HOT Tempers: That is what you get when you spend your vacation with the entire extended family. Talk about dynamics. There aren’t many situations where being politically correct is so necessary. And how about those drivers on the road, the clerks at the store when the A/C isn’t working, or the mate that comes home after having a ‘hard day’? Do you feel your temperature rising? HOT Topics: The Health Care Reform is still gathering momentum and the debate is heating up. Did you see the reaction of concerned citizens at some of the Town Hall meetings being held around the country to “sell” the ObamaCare program? Check out the mailer from your local representatives. They will be holding town hall meetings in your area during August. If you want to make your voice heard, plan to attend a meeting. Adam Shift is my local rep and he is holding a meeting at the Alhambra Library on August 11th. This is another opportunity to get involved (and to make a difference) using the democratic process. As Nurses and health care providers, I encourage you to take part in whatever means you can to express yourselves to ensure that our freedoms are not jeopardized by a few. Preserving our choices in healthcare honors the sanctity of life. Thank you to Rick Miller, Financial Planner for his most stimulating presentation on how to keep your money and still be able to obtain Long Term Care. If you have a need for a consult, Rick comes highly recommended. You can go to our Web page www.rns-ca.org to look up his information. Again, I want to thank our friends who so generously continue to give for the raffle drawing each month. Stay well and I hope to see you at the RNS meeting on August 27th, to learn from and with each other. Renae Paulson, RN RNS President President’s Message
