Avoid using current work phones or e-mails as that is inappropriate. If you are using an answering machine, make sure the message is business-like. Use non-work e-mail address that is not too cute. An Objective is not required, but is a nice touch to allow the employer to see what type of position interests you at a glance. It should focus on what you have to offer TO the employer – not what you want FROM the employer. For those with more experience, it can be replaced with a Summary of Qualifications or a Professional Summary (a one or two sentence statement describing yourself). Education information including not only degrees you have or are working toward, but trade schools, business schools, and specialized training. You can include information on specific courses if it is relevant to the job you are seeking. A Skills section allows an employer to see at a glance what you will bring to the job. It is an excellent way to showcase your qualifications. The Experience section tells a potential employer where you have worked before and, more importantly, what you have done. It can be given a more descriptive title such as Office Experience or Clinical Experience. Include company name, city and state, dates that you worked there, your job title and a description of your responsibilities (where possible include numbers – amount of customers served/money handled/transactions processed and the like). Don’t include complete addresses, phone numbers or supervisor names…leave those things for a separate reference list. Also leave off salaries and reasons for leaving past jobs. Sample Resume Format Created by the Montgomery College, Career Services Office Some Other Possible Headings Volunteer or Hobby and Activity related experience if it is relevant to the job you are looking for. Awards or Honors, including scholarships, performance awards or other recognition from schools, employers or other organizations. Professional Credentials or Certifications such as CPA, RN, MCSE, CPR or First Aid certification, etc. Memberships in Honor Societies or Professional Organizations that are relevant to your job search Please Note: This is NOT a perfect resume. Possible improvements are discussed in workshops! Cover Letter & Resume Samples
