Effective Leadership Styles What is leadership? A manager who earns the respect and cooperation of employees to effectively accomplish the work of the organization. They have excellent human relations skills. Human relations refers to how well people get along with each other when working together. Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things...  Peter Drucker

Management vs. leadership Managers ensure their employees have all the tools need to be productive and successful. They make sure their employees are well trained, happy and have minimal roadblocks to accomplish their task. They make sure their employees are groomed for the next level and recognize great performance A leader is someone who has particular talent, thinks out of the box, has great ideas. A leader leads based on strengths not titles

Characteristics of an effective leader Intelligence – study learn, and improve leadership skills. Judgment – consider all the facts carefully, apply knowledge and experience Objectivity – look at all sides of a problem and not make biased judgments or statements Initiative – must have ambition and persistence in reaching a goal/highly motivated

Characteristics of an effective leader Dependability – must be consistent and not make promises they can’t keep. Cooperation – understand and work well with others. Honesty – they have high standards and personal integrity. They are ethical when making decisions. Courage – possess courage to make unpopular decisions. Willing to take risks to support others.

Characteristics of an effective leader Confidence – must have a great deal of self- confidence. They trust their own judgment. Stability – not highly emotional. They help others to solve problems and reduce conflicts. Understanding – must understand that feelings and ideas of others are important. Encourage others to share their ideas, experiences and opinions.
