Final Exam Speaking Test Review College English 1 Are you ready?

Tips for the Speaking Test Be on time! Don’t waste time. Say as much as you can – remember the Rule of 5 Speak English only Use the grammar and vocabulary we discussed in class Practice and prepare for every question Be ready for follow-up questions

Unit 6 – Food and Nutrition How healthy is your diet? Give examples to explain. How important is it to you to eat healthy food? What foreign country’s food do you enjoy most? What is your favorite Korean food, and how would you describe it in English? How have Koreans’ diets changed in modern times? Do you think these changes are good or bad?

Unit 7 – Natural Disasters and Geology What disasters have you survived? How do you and your family prepare for disasters?  What kind of disaster seems scariest to you? What did you learn about geology in middle school and/or high school? What was your favorite science class? Why did you like it so much?

Unit 8 – Ancient People and Places What ancient cultures have you studied? What do you remember about them? What famous archeological site would you like to visit? Why? Why do you think ancient people built pyramids? Tell me about an amazing historical site in Korea that you think people from around the world should come to see. Some things you might describe about it: When it was built Who built it. Why it was built. How it was built. What it was used for in the past. What important things happened there. Why you think people from around the world should see it.

Unit 9 – Natural Selection and the Environment What are two examples of useful traits that help animals survive? Do you think it is important to help endangered species survive? How does the environment you live in affect your health and happiness? What are some interesting species of animals that live in Korea? What are some of the traits you inherited from your parents and grandparents?

Unit 10 – Entrepreneurs, New Businesses, and the Present Perfect Would you like to own your own business? Why or why not? Do you think that you would be a successful entrepreneur? Why or why not? Do you enjoy competing with other people? Explain your answer in detail Do you have good people skills (such as listening, communicating, and understanding people)? Explain your answer in detail.

Advice for the written exam. Please write your answers clearly! On the true/false questions write a clear T or F Examples of answers that are ALWAYS wrong: ₮ Ŧ Ħ ᵮ Γ Ƚ ʧ ₣ Ⱡ Ԏ Ѭ On the multiple choice and matching, please write a clear uppercase letter (A, B, C, D, etc.). Many lowercase letters (a, b, c, d, etc.) look similar to each other with sloppy handwriting. If I do not know what your answer is, it is wrong.

Written Test Procedure Clear your desk. Spread out. BE QUIET once I start handing out tests. If you have a question or a problem, please raise your hand and tell me. Write your answers clearly. When you have finished, please put your test paper on my podium. Leave the room quietly.
