2 What is an Expo? An Expo is a large exhibition, and an event that aims at educating individuals on specific topics, sharing inventions, promoting progress and fostering cooperation. The Career EXPO you will be attending focuses on your high school education options as well as college and career options you have available to you.

3 You will have opportunities to:
Learn about ideas. Talk to people. Watch demonstrations. See equipment. Listen to speakers. Use tools or equipment.

4 What opportunities this year?
Speakers from different career fields Representatives from multiple businesses Presentation on high school options Job application skills

5 What do I need? Pencil or pen
Cell phones should only be used if permissible by your counselor/teacher. Cell phone use is only appropriate if related to the event and if a presenter agrees. (ask permission to take a picture) Bags/Backpacks are not allowed Food and drinks are only allowed in the lunch area.

6 Bus Procedures Busses will be full
Get on your bus with your assigned group- remember your bus # Bus #’s will be in the windows (Bus 1, Bus 2, etc.) Upon arrival, take all your things and go where directed. You will not have access to the bus once unloaded

7 Breakout sessions: Career Areas
Presentations in 6 different career areas Order each rotation group from 1-3. Only a certain number of seats are in each room. If your first choice room is full, you can learn about another area. With limited seats, please fill the rows. There will be no standing due to fire code.

Discuss which sessions you are most interested in attending. Number them on your sheet. Athletes – Using Your Skills to Compete and Succeed Protecting the Community: Your Safety is Our Priority Successful Branding: Creating Stories that Change the World

9 Breakout sessions: Rotation 2
Discuss which sessions you are most interested in attending. Number them on your sheet. Flying into the Future Healthcare Heroes Attention Artists, Gamers & Movie Lovers: Turning Talent into a Career.

10 Lunch Student’s lunch will be buffet style. Students should go through the line and take what they’ll eat. Finish your meal, start a conversation, and enjoy the interactive exhibits. Please clean up your area and be respectful.

11 Expo Expectations Choose sessions/tables that you don’t know much about Ask questions of the representatives Check in with your chaperones regularly Hands off display items, unless you’re invited to touch. Be respectful of other students and adults.

12 Assembly Presentation
All about engaging in high school opportunities to prepare for career success. Students will sit on the floor for the presentation. Expectations in a presentation are similar to class Listen carefully to the presentation Wait until the end of the presentation to ask questions Cells phone put away. Remember: Some information might not be interesting to you, but it might be interesting to others. These are full presentations, voice level: 0 – silence. Raising your hand is a good way to show you have a question.

13 Career Coaching: Interviewing Professionals
Let’s break this down Introduce yourself, shake hands Ask open-ended questions Use his or her name Say thank-you when your conversation is done.

14 Professional introduction
Introduce yourself and extend your hand for a handshake. “Hello, my name is (first name, last names). It’s nice to meet you.” Practice with your group

15 Open-ended Questions Ask for details
Often start with: Why? How? Can start other ways… What about…? What advice…? What skills…? Don’t have to be questions Please tell me about…

16 Career Coaching: Interviewing Professionals Review
Prior to arrival, complete the “Job Application paper- 3X Listen respectfully Learn about Job Application Do’s & Don’ts Practice with a partner.

18 Leaving Meet your chaperone to get back on the bus
Look for someone holding up your bus # Place any completed paperwork in your bag that may need to be turned in at the school. After an exciting day, please settle calmly for the bus ride.
