GOALS The goal of the HCBS Employee Scholarship Grant Program is to assist qualified HCBS providers fund employee scholarships for education and training in nursing and other health care field. The goal of today’s webinar is to help you with your grant application 11/8/2018

Amount of funding available and grant requests limits Total amount of grant funds available: $1.45M Expected number of grant awards this year: 30 If your organization has more than 200 eligible employees, you may request up to $90,000 for the 2-year grant cycle. If you have less than 200 eligible employees, you may request no more than $70,000. Minimum award amount is $20,000. Because this is a competitive RFP, the amount that you will get awarded, if at all, will depend on a number of factors such as the competition and the quality of the grant applications received. More on how grants are selected can be found on Pages 3 and 4 of the RFP. 11/8/2018

Is your organization or business eligible to apply for a grant? The questions in the table on Page 7 of the RFP (application) should determine if you are eligible to apply. Your organization or business is eligible to apply if it… is licensed as a - 1) Home Care, 2) Assisted Living or 3) Adult Day Care and, it primarily serves people who are 65 years of age or older 11/8/2018

Which of your employees can be given a scholarship? They must in caregiving roles AND work an average of 16 hours per week. 11/8/2018

Scholarship funds must be used to pay for: Employees’ tuition for courses – the courses may lead to a degree or certificate or they may be a one-time skill enhancement course Bringing in a trainer to provide training for a group of scholarship-eligible employees Other expenses directly related to coursework or training such as textbooks and fees, and child care expenses and mileage reimbursement. 11/8/2018

Examples of courses or classes that are scholarship eligible Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) BSN in Nursing or RN Bachelor of Social Work Health Support Specialist (HSS) certification Physical therapy training or certificate Dementia care certificate Medication aide training Wound care certificate English as a Second Language classes 11/8/2018

What classes or training are not eligible? Trainings not directly related to the improvement of patient or client care such as HIPAA training, coding, accounting, OASIS, human resources and management. Any degree, certification or courses pursued by employees in order to get out of the nursing or HCBS field. Examples: EMT, doctor of pharmacy Required orientation or annual trainings for employees to maintain the HCBS license of the organization. Required training or continuing education for employees to maintain their current/annual professional certifications. 11/8/2018

What expenses are reimbursable by grant funds? Examples: tuition and registration fees course-related textbooks and fees training consultant fees childcare expenses while the employee is attending classes mileage for travel to classes 11/8/2018

What expenses are not reimbursable? administrative expenses salary, fringe benefits or stipend while the employee is attending school out-of-state training, travel or lodging laptops, computers, phones or tablets books, supplies or equipment that are not directly related to or required as part of classes or trainings that scholarship recipients take 11/8/2018

Criteria for Funding - how grant applications are selected to get grant awards Each application will be read and reviewed by grant reviewers based on a 100-point scale criteria. Demonstrated ability to administer a scholarship program – 10 points Demonstrated need for a scholarship funds – 20 points Eligibility of courses of study – 50 points Reasonableness of the budget – 20 points Note that 70 points are from information you provide mostly in the budget pages. 11/8/2018

Example 1: FORM 7B – EMPLOYEE TUITION BUDGET EXPLANATION 1. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) 6 employees will receive $2,100 each to obtain their CNA credentials. The breakdown of costs for each recipient will be as follows: Tuition: $1,500 Textbooks, school fees, childcare, mileage: $600 TOTAL FOR EACH RECIPIENT: $2,100 2. License Practical Nurse (LPN) 3 employee will receive a $4,855 scholarship each to obtain their LPN degree at St. Cloud Technical and Community College. The breakdown of costs will be as follows: Tuition: $3,500 Textbooks, school fees, childcare, mileage: $1,355 TOTAL FOR EACH RECIPIENT: $4,855 11/8/2018

Example 1: FORM 7B – EMPLOYEE TUITION BUDGET EXPLANATION 3. Trained Medication Aide (TMA) One eligible employee will receive a $2,910 scholarship toward a TMA certificate. The breakdown of costs will be as follows: Tuition: $2,000 Textbooks, school fees, mileage: $910 TOTAL: $2,910 4. Bachelor of Social Work at St. Cloud State A $9,925 scholarship will be awarded to an eligible employee pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work degree at St. Cloud State University for 1 year. 90% of the award will be for tuition and 10% will be for textbooks and school fees. 11/8/2018

Example 1: FORM 8B – IN-HOUSE EMPLOYEE TRAIING BUDGET EXPLANATION 1. Advanced Dementia Training by XYZ Trainers 15 employees will go through two sessions of Advanced Dementia Training provided by XYZ Trainers. Each session costs $2,500. At the end of the last session, participants will be tested and will receive certificates of training completion. XYZ Trainers specializes in patient-centered dementia and Alzheimer’s education for service providers of the elderly population. The website of XYZ Trainers is __________, and their training website is ___________ 2. Wound Care Training by a trainer from the ABC Board of Wound Care Management 10 employees will attend Wound Care Training in a 3-hour session. Training will involve simulation exercises, and each participant will receive a certificate of training completion. A quote of $3,000 for the training session has been obtained from ABC Board of Wound Care Management. 3. First Aid Training by American Red Cross 10 employees will participate in a basic first aid training provided by the local American Red Cross chapter. The cost of the 2-hour training is $2,000. 11/8/2018

Example 2: FORM 7B – EMPLOYEE TUITION BUDGET EXPLANATION 1. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) 14 employees will each be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to assist them in obtaining their CNA credentials at Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Century College, North Hennepin Community College or any other college of their choice that is offering CNA classes. It is expected that at least $1,500 will go toward tuition cost, and the rest will be for textbooks and school fees. 2. License Practical Nurse (LPN) 10 employees will each be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $3,500 to assist them in obtaining their LPN credentials at Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Century College, North Hennepin Community College or any other college of their choice that is offering an LPN degree. It is expected that at least $2,500 will go toward tuition cost, and the rest will be for textbooks and fees. 11/8/2018

The most important thing you should do is… Read the RFP document and the instruction on each page carefully and follow the instructions. - provide the information requested, all forms must be complete, make sure all the materials and forms required on the checklist are included, make the right number of copies, follow the mailing instruction, use the correct address, mail the application by the deadline, etc. 11/8/2018
