5  Sports Medicine  The multidisciplinary approach to health care for those seriously involved in exercise and sport.  ACSM  American College of Sports Medicine  Established to converge different fields of healthcare to focus on national health and fitness.  How does “Sports Medicine” differ from regular medicine? Sports medicine specialist are trained to specifically address the health care needs for athletes. 5

6  Athletics has become a very important part of our society. Provides individuals with a sense of identity.  It is a money making business at some levels. Opportunities for College scholarships. Signing Bonuses Big Contracts Playoff Money  Which setting would you think gets paid the most? 6

Under the What do Athletic Trainers do? section you will find brochures that will aid you in answering the following questions.www.nata.org 1. What is a certified athletic trainer? 2. What credential do they hold? 3. What are the five major practice domains (roles and responsibilities) of the certified athletic trainer? 4. What do the Initials NATA stand for? 5. For extra credit what is the difference between Athletic Trainers and Personal Trainers? 9
