12 Upcoming Changes to the FAFSA

In the instance of a divorced/separated parent: The parent information on the FAFSA should only be the parent of record. The parent of record is the parent whom the student lives with more than 50%. 19 Best Practices Never rule out a college because of cost alone.
Make sure that you and your student are partners when applying and reviewing aid offers. Correspondence is sent directly to the student in most cases. Compare costs before applying — Net price calculators can provide an estimate of financial aid eligibility and remaining college costs. Net price calculators should be available on every college's website. Compare awards — Look at grants, loans, and parental contributions before making a final decision on a college. Speak to the Financial Aid Office for changes in the household or other unusual financial circumstances
