How Does it Work? Our K-8 schools operate under these guidelines to meet the following standards: One third of a child’s daily calorie requirement < 30% calories from fat < 10% calories from saturated fat 1/3 of the RDA for protein, calcium, iron, Vitamin A and Vitamin C A variety of sandwiches, salads and pizza in addition to the “Daily Special” are offered Also available daily are veggie-burgers, 100% beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, low-fat yogurt, and hard- cooked eggs as entrees

Smart Snacks Our K-8 schools operate under these Smart Snack guidelines to meet the following standards: <35% calories from fat <10% calories from saturated fat 0 grams trans fat per portion <200 mg of sodium <200 calories per item Weight of all sugars is <35% of the serving size weight

How Does it Work? Students in the district enjoy the flexibility of being able to purchase a wide selection of items of their own choice. K-8 students also have the option of purchasing a school lunch. The components align with the standards of the National School Lunch Program as follows:

How to Build A Lunch Components include Meat / Meat Alternate Bread / Grain Fruit or 100% Juice Vegetables Low-fat Milk Students choose at least one fruit or vegetable and 2 other components to make a meal Cashiers encourage students to select fruits and vegetables and signage is prevalent in the serving areas In order to receive the Meal Price, a student must take at least a serving of fruit or vegetable
