British Impressment Impressment- the practice of forcing American sailors to serve in the British Navy Britain needed sailors to fight against the French who were led by Napoleon

Increased Violence in Frontier Native Americans were angry over American westward expansion Tecumseh- Native American leader who led fight against the Americans Battle of Tippecanoe- American victory over Native American tribes which heightened tensions between US and Native Americans

Americans Call for War Group of Democratic-Republicans who called for war with Britain were known as War Hawks Wanted to restore national honor Retaliate against the Native Americans and British Henry Clay John C. Calhoun
