How to Make an Effective Presentation

A presentation is a formal talk to many people that presents information in a clear, structured way.

Preparation Choosing a manageable topic. (5-10 minutes) Collecting materials. Organizing the materials. Preparing visual/audio aids (PPT slides). Rehearsing.

Criteria of evaluating a presentation Content Structure Language Visual/Audio aids Presentation skills

Content Informative concrete

Structure Greeting the audience Presenting your topic in a well-structured way Concluding your presentation Question time Thanking the audience

Language Accurate and appropriate language Acceptable pronunciation and intonation Fluency

Visual/Audio aids Well-crafted Design (e.g. color, lay-out, size, sound, etc.) Proper rhythm of displaying slides

Presentation Skills Paralinguistic features: volume, rising and falling tones, speed of speech, etc. Don’t speak in a monotone. Don’t speak too fast. Body language: gestures, facial expression, eye contact, etc. Don’t simply read from PPT slides or your notes.
