Give priority access in the face of a crisis. For times of crisis, Verizon now offers Wireless Priority Service (WPS) over our Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) radio access network (RAN). This powerful wireless tool is known as WPS over VoLTE initial operating capability (IOC). For times when priority is just as important as reliability, we have a powerful wireless tool that can help your agency’s resources prioritize your most critical calls. Wireless Priority Service (WPS) creates a special top-level priority for wireless communications access that key agency personnel can use during a crisis, such as national security alerts and natural disasters. To take that one step further, Verizon now offers WPS over our Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) radio access network (RAN). That service is known as WPS over VoLTE initial operating capability (IOC).

Keep ahead of the technology curve. Our WPS over VoLTE IOC provides priority for VoLTE calls on the RAN, and gives you a direct radio link between your WPS-enabled device and the cell site. All without requiring you to dial *272. To keep ahead of the technology curve, this new service provides priority for VoLTE calls on the RAN, and gives you a direct radio link between your WPS-enabled device and the cell site. No need to dial *272 for access. It’s designed to work transparently in the background and improve your access to our 4G LTE network during periods of high congestion.

Determine your WPS eligibility. The Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) of the Department of   Homeland Security has a defined process for determining eligibility based   on your national security or emergency preparedness role:  1 Executive leadership 2 Disaster response/military and policy makers command and control 3 Public services/utilities   4 Public health, safety and and public welfare  law enforcement command Because WPS is managed by the Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), you’ll need to follow its defined process for determining eligibility. The OEC sets authorizations to one of five priority levels (one being highest), based on the subscriber’s national security or emergency preparedness role:   1. Executive leadership and policy makers 2. Disaster response/military command and control 3. Public health, safety and law enforcement command 4. Public services/utilities and public welfare 5. Disaster recovery 5 Disaster recovery Note: WPS access is subject to the terms and conditions of your customer agreement and calling plan. WPS access functions on a limited portion of the Verizon Wireless-owned and operated 800/1900 MHz CDMA network, and is available only to individuals authorized by the OEC. WPS access provides end users with the ability to be placed into a queue for the next available wireless voice channel ahead of end users not subscribing to WPS access. Verizon Wireless makes no assurances regarding waiting times associated with WPS, nor can Verizon Wireless ensure that WPS access calls will be connected. Contact your Verizon Wireless representative for complete details regarding WPS access coverage, service and availability. PRIVACY NOTICE: Verizon Wireless is required to and will share information about your WPS access usage and account status with the OEC and its authorized agents.

Get authorized. Once the OEC determines your eligibility for priority access, you will be notified by email, and if approved, WPS will be added to your Verizon Wireless account. As soon as your new service is approved, activated and available in your service area, our network automatically puts your call in high- priority status, without any special cards, codes or device modifications. Once the OEC determines your eligibility for priority access, you will be notified by email, and if approved, WPS will be added to your Verizon Wireless account. Once your new service is approved, activated and available in your service area, our network automatically puts your call in high-priority status when a channel becomes available. You don’t need any special cards or codes, and you can use your existing Verizon Wireless devices without modification. If a call failure should occur, you can still dial *272 to be connected to WPS CDMA, but WPS minutes of use (MOUs) will be charged. Confidential and proprietary materials for authorized Verizon personnel and outside agencies only. Use, disclosure or distribution of this material is not permitted to any unauthorized persons or third parties except by written agreement.

Prepare your devices for WPS over VoLTE IOC. To use our WPS over VoLTE IOC service, make sure your: • Mobile telephone number is provisioned with WPS CDMA. • Mobile devices support VoLTE and have HD Voice activated. Existing WPS CDMA users with HD Voice activated will be automatically provisioned with WPS over VoLTE IOC through an over-the-air provisioning process, requiring no additional action by the user. To use our WPS over VoLTE IOC service, your mobile telephone number must be provisioned with WPS CDMA. Plus, your smartphone must support VoLTE and have HD Voice activated. Existing WPS CDMA users with HD Voice activated will be automatically provisioned with WPD over VoLTE IOC through an over-the-air provisioning process, requiring no additional action by the user.

Why Verizon Public safety agencies have valued the reliability of our network and our ability to support them during a crisis, which is why they have chosen Verizon over and above any other wireless carrier. As a result, Verizon is the network and service provider that public safety agencies count on to keep our cities and states, and the citizens that live there, safe. With our continued investment in networks and innovation, Verizon will continue to meet your needs today and tomorrow.
