Weekly Vocabulary ♠ Every week, beginning in Week 8, students will find the words chosen for vocabulary acquisition provided by the teacher. ♠ In a dedicated Vocabulary Notebook, you should write the words, their definitions as used in the context where found in the textbook, their part of speech (n., v. adj, etc.), and write two original sentences using the word(s) from those Units logically and grammatically. ♠ For the Final Exam, all of the vocabulary from all of the GV Units that have been distributed throughout the semester (or before the Midterm for that test) will be combined, and teachers will choose which terms / expression to include on the tests. (Further directions regarding vocabulary homework will be delivered for additional clarity if needed– if you ask, your questions will be answered.)

Student Teaching ♠ Every week, beginning in Week 8, a pair of students will be assigned to present a specific Unit from the week’s grammar material. ♠ The presentation should be original (not copied from the text or other source) and be interactive with your classmates (include oral class exercises). ♠ Use a PPT for this assignment. Time limit is 10 minutes. ♠ Example of an acceptable Student Teaching PPT grammar presentation from the past (half of a week’s presentation): Example

Quia ♣ Quia quizzes are assigned each week and need to be completed between Saturday 9:00 a.m. and Sunday 7:00 p.m. in order to get credit for homework completion for the week. ♣ Go to the G/V home page: Quia Link for G/V classes (Get this link from your class Study Monitor after I give him/her this PPT.) (https://www.quia.com/pages/jratermann13/mfr) ♣ Additional material for this course can also be found on the Quia home page.

Good grammar is important because… It is the foundation of all other English skills. It makes your written and spoken English much clearer. It is essential for good writing. It shows that you have a good command of English. It is necessary for the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, etc. It can help you achieve your career goals.

Grammar Challenge! I came to school with the bus today. on I came to school with the bus today. 2) Today’s test is more easy than yesterday’s test. 3) I live in Dalian since August 2011. easier have lived

Week #7 Homework (for Wk. 8) ♦ Review the Units for the tenses we are studying this week and next. Try to understand the rules for each tense. Complete at least half of the textbook exercises as of each of the Units scheduled for this week (Units 1—6, U18). ♦ This weekend, you should take the Week 7 Quia quiz about the tenses studied. Complete on October 14 or 15 with a mark of at least 50% in order to get credit for HW for Wk. 7. ♦ Student teachers for Week 8– be prepared to present the Unit you are assigned to the class. (See examples in Quia website or that your teacher can provide.) ♦ In a Vocabulary Notebook, review the Vocabulary from Week 7 Units. Write the definition* of each word according to the context as used in the book. Note the POS it is. Write two original sentences using the word in its textbook context. ♦ Failure to do any of assigned homework will result in a reduction of one (1) pt. from your course grade. ♦ For the Week 8 class, we will review material from this week as well as study the perfect tenses. * For the sake of uniformity, please use definitions as found in dictionary.com
