3 Absenteeism and Health Reports The absenteeism limit for Intermediate is 19. When it is 20, you fail and cannot take the MET exam. Please follow your absenteeism from the LMS regularly and inform your teacher if there is any inconsistency. The number of hours your health reports cover in total cannot exceed your absenteeism limit. Health reports are not entered on LMS daily but are examined at the END of the module and may not be accepted by the administration. If your health report is accepted, your absenteeism is updated at the END of the module.

4 WHAT IS THE Intermediate COURSE? The goal of this course is:  to develop your abilities to read, listen, write and speak fluently & accurately in Academic English;  to study the grammar and vocabulary that you need to be able to communicate effectively in English;  to develop your academic skills such as giving presentations, doing research or using library and other sources.  to help you develop intellectually in an academic environment

6 IMPORTANT REMINDER! When you get your LIFE coursebook, you will receive a CONTENT ACCESS CODE; don’t lose it. You will use it to enroll for the class on MyELT Online Platform. Your teacher might assign you hw from MyELT for extra practice.

HOW MANY HOURS A DAY? 1-2 hrs a day WHAT TYPE OF HOMEWORK? writing tasks, learning new vocabulary, making use of the Internet to improve your English, preparing for presentations, using LMS for self study. WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANNOT COMPLETE IT? CONTACT YOUR TEACHER IN ADVANCE!

11 Assessment Components Process writing: First Draft: 200+ words. Two body paragraphs only. Written in class in 70 minutes. Final draft: 200+ words. Two body paragraphs only. Written at home. Timed writing:300+ words. 4 paragraphs(introduction, 2 body paragraphs, conclusion)Written in class in 70 minutes.

12 Oral Presentation 10% 6-8 minutes 4 stages – Topic (unassessed) – Outline (10%) – PPT draft+Visuals (10%) – Note-cards (unassessed) 20 % (Outline+PPT draft+Visuals) + 80 % (performance in class) The OP presentation is recorded

13 Group Discussion 10% Group of 4 students 6 min preparation, each student speaks for 2 minutes Task sheet (input) Related to OP themes Recorded

14 WEEKLY HOMEWORK There are 4 sections in total 1.Reading 2.Grammar 3.Writing 4. Listening You will receive and submit your HW on Mondays. Every week you will be responsible only for 2 sections. One will be compulsory and one will be chosen by your teacher. You can’t hand in your HW pack after the answer key is uploaded LMS on Mondays. Submit hw packs in the first hour on Monday

18 WHAT ARE TUTORIALS?  You will have tutorials once a week.  Tutorials will take place after class hours except for Friday.  In tutorials you will have the chance to talk about your work, how the course is going and how you are studying, to get feedback on your writing and so on.  You will have the chance to speak to your teacher individually, in pairs or in small groups of three.  Tutorials are part of the course and you must go to them.  You must be on time.  It is your teacher’s responsibility to choose your tutorial time.

19 YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:  To take an active role in your education;  To be an active participant in the classroom;  To support your instructors & classmates in the learning process;  To come to class fully prepared;  To get the class notes and any homework from a classmate if you are absent;  To form study groups and work cooperatively with your friends in your group;  To email your instructor if you are unable to come to class or a tutorial;  To meet the deadlines of all assignments.
