Around 1910 he worked for the Molsons Bank in Canada Shortly after working in Canada he moved to the US and worked as a journalist in Boston and New York In 1914, Joachim came back to Germany to fight for his country in World War I

Joined the 125 th Regiment of the Hussars Reached the rank of 1 st Lieutenant Was awarded the Iron Cross Was seriously wounded nearing the end of the war

Joachim joined the NSDAP in 1932 He quickly moved up the hierarchy In 1933 he became Hitlers foreign affairs advisor In August 1936, he was appointed the Ambassador to Britain
