Filling Out Job Applications

Filling Out Job Applications Dress appropriately. Make a good first impression. You may be called right then for the interview. Read the directions BEFORE you write. Be prepared. Take all the information you might need with you: a. Dates and addresses of all last work experience (paid and volunteer) b. Names and addresses of schools attended c. License numbers, social security number, health card, etc. d. Resume (if you have one)

Filling Out Job Applications Print neatly, or type. Make sure that the application is easily readable.** Make sure spelling and grammar are correct. Use proper capitalization for names, addresses, etc. Ex – 301 Midway Drive, El Paso, TX 79915 Take two copies of the application, just in case. Answer all items or explain items left blank. Take your own pen! Black ink is preferred Take 2 pens of the same brand in case one does not work.

Filling Out Job Applications Include any and all skills that apply to this job (including hobbies, clubs, volunteer work, etc.). Attempt to write up your skills and experience to match what you think the employer is looking for. Don't sell yourself short; include information that would give the employer a better picture of your special talents and skills. Sell yourself – your skills, talents and abilities.

Filling Out Job Applications If there are problem questions about your health, legal status, or reasons for leaving school or jobs, try to be as positive as possible and leave long explanations for the interview. Then be prepared to deal with the question later. Have someone proofread your application whenever possible. If someone cannot proofread your application, take your time to make sure it is correct. If you need help, bring the application to class or if it is a website, I am here to help.

Filling Out Job Applications When asked for “Date Available to Work”: Immediately (if you don’t have a job) Two Weeks (if you need to resign your current job) Section does not apply to you: N/A – not applicable Use it only once per section Salary: Open or Negotiable, (if it asks for a specific amount use 7.25 per hour)

Filling Out Job Applications Work Experience: Most apps require you to list most recent first, but read the app you’re filling out to verify this Reason for Leaving: Write only positive reasons – Better Opportunity, Not Enough Hours, Temporary Position DO NOT WRITE– Fired, or Boss was a jerk

Filling Out Job Applications If you make a mistake - Draw a line through the item and write your correction above it (for paper applications only) Immediately Emediatly
