Evaluation Objective: ACYHA u10 Evaluation Evaluation Objective: To accurately and fairly evaluate the players hockey ability and place him/her on the correct team and level where they will develop the best. 1. 2 2

ACYHA u10 Evaluation Evaluation Process for 2017 We hold closed tryouts. No parents or relatives will be allowed in the arena with the exception of parent coaches supporting execution of evaluations 1st day, players need to trade in their Pod jersey for an Evaluation jersey (Grey/Black Reversible) Please have the POD jersey washed! Players will keep the eval jersey during the entire process. 3

ACYHA u10 Evaluation Evaluation Process for 2017 Players will need to remove any stickers on their helmets that are not ACYHA related such as the Falcon or a number Players will need to wear a pair of matching hockey socks during evals Please make sure your son or daughter have their jerseys and equipment before leaving the parking lot! We will check each player’s number and color before each session We will have a parent in the locker room before and after each eval session 4

ACYHA u10 Evaluation How will skaters be evaluated? 11 Concept/Skill SKATING Use and control of both inside and outside edges. Proper knee bend and leg extension. Backwards, back straight and good balance. Crossovers in both directions. Speed and agility. Stops, changes direction and transitions effectively in both directions. OFFENSIVE SKILLS Accurate giving and receiving of passes. Accurate and hard shot. Pushes puck in open ice, stick handles effectively in traffic. Uses body to protect puck. Effective scorer and playmaker. DEFENSIVE SKILLS Gap control for defensemen. Protects the middle of the ice. Active stick. Stick on puck. Takes opponents time and space away. HOCKEY SENSE Effective puck support. Creates time and space. Correct judgement on moving or holding onto the puck. Faces the puck and plays with head up. Creates opportunities both with the puck and without the puck. Knows where to be on the ice to be effective. EFFORT, AGGRESSIVENESS, PHYSICAL PLAY Moves their feet. Skates hard for loose pucks. Battles hard for pucks. Pressure puck carrier with speed. Back checks hard. Proper angling. Effective body contact to gain or protect the puck. 11

ACYHA u10 Evaluation Players Parents Evaluation Roles & Responsibilities Players Must attend all sessions unless excused because of injury, illness or conflict; Coordinator must be notified ahead of time with as much advance notice as possible. Good behavior – Inappropriate conduct on or off the ice could affect a player’s score and team placement Parents Should NOT approach or talk to Evaluators before or after evaluation sessions All communication should be done through the Coordinators 17
