2 Brief History Floor hockey originally evolved as an adaptation of ice hockey and street hockey played inside a gym on a wooden floor. The original floor hockey rules adapted from the National Hockey League rules. Ice Hockey was created by British Soldiers who were stationed in Canada The first organized indoor hockey games took place in Battle Creek, Michigan, in Tim Harter is responsible for refining the rules of the game.

3 Gameplay  5 v 5, 1 goal keeper 3 offensive players (Center & 2 Wings)  2 defensive players (Defensemen) There will be an all GIRLS line and an all Boys line Students will play for 3 minutes and then a new line will come in

4 Floor Hockey Positions

5 Rules Defensive players must stay on their half of the “ice”
Offensive players can go anywhere on the “ice” Icing Rules When clearing the puck, it must touch one of your teammates sticks before crossing the center line If the puck is cleared without anyone touching it that is called ICING and the puck will be brought back to your half for a face off

6 Icing Diagram

8 Rules Offsides The offense cannot pass the puck across two yellow lines without being touched by one of their teammates

9 Goalie Rules Can use stick, hands, feet, body, etc. to stop the puck
When putting the puck in play goalies must use their sticks Goalies can leave their crease but they must use their sticks Only GOALIE is allowed to be in the crease

10 Safety Rules No high sticking No checking No tripping
No use of your feet No lifting of the puck while shooting

11 Game Strategies Defensive players should be in man-to- man coverage
Offensive players should create space and not all go for the puck at one time Create passing lanes – try to pass the puck to an open player and not shoot when surrounded by defense Stay spread out Try and stay on your “side” For example – Left Wing players should be focused on staying on the LEFT side Defensive players should be in man-to- man coverage The CENTER WING should be dropping back to help with the coverage Try NOT to have all 8 players on one half
