The Skeletal System Standard: Explain the purpose of the major organ systems in the human body

What is connective tissue? Attaches muscles to bones (tendon) Attaches bone to bone (ligament) Attaches and supports internal organs

What are body systems? Another name for organ systems Two or more organs working together toward a common function

What is the skeletal system? Framework of your body Has 5 major functions Found in vertebrates

What organs make up the skeletal system? All the bones in your body Average human body has 206 bones

What is the function of the skeletal system? 1) Gives shape and support to your body 2) Protect your internal organs

3) Major muscles are attached to bone and help them move 4) Blood cells are formed in the center of many bones in soft tissue called red marrow. 5) Bones store calcium and phosphorus for later usage.

Inside look at a bone

How does the skeletal system move? Through interactions with the muscle system Without the muscle system, you would not be able to move

Foldable Include your own word definition, a picture, and why the word is important to you Periosteal Cartilage Joint Ligament
