3 INSIDE A BONE BONES ARE MADE UP OF: Compact-hard, tough tissue that provides support and surrounds the spongy bone. Spongy-strong but lightweight tissue, bone marrow is housed here Bone marrow creates new red blood cells

4 2 DIVISIONS OF THE SKELETAL SYSTEM AXIAL SKELETON- consists of the skull, spinal cord, ribs and pelvis. APPENDICULAR SKELETON- Includes the arms and legs and main function is to provide movement

5 TYPES OF JOINTS Immovable joints- bones of your skull are connected by joints that do not move. Movable joints- Allows body to bend and move. Joint is surrounded by connective tissue called ligaments. Example- arm moves up and down by a joint called a hinge joint.

6 Connective Muscle Tissue Ligaments- Connect bone to bone Tendons- Connect muscle to bone
