2 Cells How does a single cell become a person made of many cells? cell The basic unit of life There are many different kinds of cells. Each cell has its own function or job.

3 Types of Cells Even though cells perform different jobs or functions in the body, they all have the same structure. Muscle Cells Red Blood Cells Nerve Cells

4 Cells Continued…. Bone Cells: calcify to become bones. Muscle Cells: form muscles Nerve Cells: send messages Red Blood Cells: carry oxygen White Blood Cells: kill germs Remember these are just a few examples!!

5 The Skeletal System The skeletal system protects your internal organs and helps you move. skeletal system The framework of bones and other tissues that supports the body The 206 bones in your body make blood cells and store calcium and other minerals.

12 Caring for Your Bones and Muscles Tips for Caring for Your Bones and Muscles Do flexibility exercises. Choose physical activities that strengthen your muscles and bones. Choose physical activities that build cardiovascular strength. Practice proper posture. When you lift heavy objects, keep your back straight and bend your knees. Eat healthful foods to provide bones and muscles the nutrients they need.
