Chapter 20 Elements, Compounds and Mixtures Robert Boyle an Irish Scientist discovered that substances are made of atoms. He called these substances elements There are over 100 different elements. Everything on earth is made up of elements. Elements are like pieces of lego and are used to make things

Names & Symbols of Elements All the elements are listed in a table called the periodical table All elements are given a symbol to identify them and they have a fixed position in the periodical table.
