What criteria do you use to determine if a child has achieved a level and across which curricular areas?

“Assessment of a learner’s progress and achievement is based on a teacher’s assessment of their knowledge, understanding and skills in curriculum areas. Teachers assess learning using a variety of approaches and a wide range of evidence.” Education Scotland

When does assessment happen? All the time! Planning Termly – checking progress week Key points - transition

How do we assess? Observation – make, say, write or do Questioning Self & peer assessment Criteria specific assessment Termly progress weeks Periodic standardised assessment Baseline (P1) Literacy & Numeracy August Spelling (SWST) all children from P3 – P7. September Reading & Number (Quest) P3 children only. September Reading (NGRT online) P5 & P6 children. September Maths (PTM online) P5 & P6 children. May SNSA P1, P4 & P7 children

What do we assess? Eight curricular areas Experiences and Outcomes (referred to as Es & Os): The Experience describes the learning. The Outcome represents what the learning will achieve. This is often explained, from the pupil's perspective as an 'I can....', 'I am able to....‘ Progressive planners across all levels Benchmarks indicate key assessments

Achievement of a Level Early Level: preschool years and P1 or later for some First Level: to the end of P4; earlier or later for some Second Level: to the end of P7; earlier or later for some Third/Fourth Level: S1 – S3; earlier for some Senior Phase: S4-S6 Achievement of a level recorded at P1, P4 & P7 Benchmarks
