1 Stockbridge Primary School HT Presentation to Parents September 2017

2 A Busy Year At Stockbridge Primary
What have we achieved? What are our strengths? What do we need to do next?

3 Raising Attainment in Literacy and Language
What did we do? We developed and agreed a new Progressive Spelling Programme. We delivered the Read Write Inc programme and the Fresh Start Programme to learners with identified support needs. We further developed our ‘school reading culture’ through the introduction of an outdoor library. What was the impact? Almost all children (97%) are achieving expected levels in P1 (an increase from 93% in 2016). Mean standardised score of 113. Almost all children (92%) are achieving expected levels in P4 (an increase from 84% in 2016). Mean standardised score of 110. Most children (88%) are achieving expected levels In P7 (89% in 2016 but this reflects the additional needs in this cohort). Mean standardised score of 117. What Next? We will launch our newly developed Progressive Spelling Programme P3-7. We will further develop our grammar progression. We will further develop a genre progression. We will continue to engage with the National benchmarks to support our assessment and moderation of Literacy and Language.

4 Raising Attainment in Numeracy and Mathematics
What did we do? We continued to embed SEAL in Nursery to P3 and rolled it out in P4. We developed a whole school approach to mental agility through ‘Stockbridge Counts’ We continued to support staff development in maths through CPD and Collegiate time. We continued to identify and support learners who were not achieving expected levels through interventions in class and small group work with our Support for Learning Team. We have invested in resources to extend our most able learners – TJ textbooks, NRich etc and a small group worked with the maths department from the High School. What was the impact? All children (100%) are achieving expected levels in P1 (an increase from 93% in 2016). Mean standardised score of 106. Almost all children (92%) are achieving expected levels in P4 (an increase from 73% in 2016). Mean standardised score of 111. Most children (88%) are achieving expected levels In P7 (an increase from 77% in 2016). Mean standardised score of 113. What Next? We will continue to embed our SEAL and Stockbridge Counts approaches. We will use the new National Benchmarks for moderation and assessment. We will pilot the use of Numicon to support learners with Additional Needs in Numeracy and Mathematics.

5 Cluster Planning, Assessment and Moderation of Mathematics
What did we do? We worked with Broughton High School Cluster Colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to the planning, assessment and moderation of expressions and equations. We worked with colleagues from across the Cluster to create exemplars of evidence to support our moderation. What was the impact? Most Stockbridge Learners were assessed as meeting expected levels of attainment in expressions and equations work. Staff are confident in their teacher assessments. What Next? We will share CEC progression pathways and increase staff confidence using these, to ensure staff have a shared understanding of the standards across the levels. We will provide opportunities to meet the professional development needs identified by staff.

6 Building Resilience What did we do?
We launched our Building Resilience Programme (Nursery – Primary 7) What was the impact? Learners are using the language that they have learnt through the programme when experiencing challenges - ‘I cant do it…yet!’ Learners are explicitly taught that the choices that they make can shape their brain and that their mindset it not fixed! 94% of pupils in P3-7 reported that they can learn from their mistakes in our pupil survey. Staff and parents have reported that they have seen an improvement in learners ability to face challenges and manage their emotions. What Next? We will continue to engage all children in this programme. We will continue to refer to our Learning Powers and Social Skills in assemblies, classwork and display.

9 Whole School Approach to Sustainability
What did we do? We developed our work with the RSPB – created bee highways, a Bug Hotel, bird feeders… We took part in an energy audit – used a thermal camera, took part in a draught excluder workshop, used wonderbags for cooking. We continued to work with learners to grow, harvest and cook our own food. We have worked with our cluster schools and all classes on promoting the Global Goals. We shared our learning about the Victorians with Mpeni and learnt about the history of the city of Blantyre. We further developed our nursery outdoor learning environment. All learners worked towards developing an area of school life through our community groupss. What was the impact? Miles Briggs MSP visited the school to find out about our eco work. We were nominated for a Nature of Scotland Award. All learners had the opportunity to engage in learning about eco schools, UN Charter of the Rights of World and our partner school Mpeni. Our learners learnt about the positive impact they can have on our world as an active citizen! What Next? We will be using our Food for Thought grant to purchase additional equipment to extend our food technologies experiences. We will be continuing to embed our relationship with Mpeni through curriculum links and fundraising for 2 additional classrooms.

12 Assessment is For Learning / Pupil Voice
What did we do? We extended our use of Online Learning Journals to Nursery – Primary 7. We have continued to embed our use of Floor Books and Learning Walls as planning tools to extend pupil voice. We have focussed on the use of effective feedback strategies within classroom monitoring and peer shadowing to extend and embed our practice. We extended our use of Community Group Sharing Assemblies. What was the impact? Feedback and reporting to parents is more frequent and more responsive. Most parents are regularly checking and commenting on Online Learning Journals. 90% of parents felt that the Online Learning Journals kept them informed of learning that has taken place. Learners had a greater role in developing projects based on their interests Learners were able to share their learning regularly with the whole school community What Next? We will continue to engage ALL parents in use of the Online Learning Journals. We will review our Home Learning Policy to ensure it is flexible and responsive to pupil voice and reflects our effective feedback policy.

14 We also…… Raised money for a range of different charities like Comic Relief. Hosted the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Association. Provided a very wide range of excursions and enrichment opportunities across the Curriculum – museums, Generation Science, Book Festival, visiting theatre groups, outdoor learning in and around our wider Community. Further developed our communications with parents through the website and twitter. Celebrated our 140th anniversary with a fantastic Victorian Day. Our choir has performed at Europe Day, the Stockbridge Christmas Fair, the National Storytelling Centre. The Cluster Learning Council presented their work on the Global Goals and cooperative working within the cluster to a group of local councillors.

15 We also……
