Presentation transcript:

Biomechanical modeling and simulation of interaction between human body and medical devices Motivation and Background: Recent increases in computational power are opening research areas that the Life Sciences Industry is willing to investigate, offering a cost effective alternative to clinical or laboratory experiments. With knowledge in physiology and biomechanics and with appropriate validation, the Finite Element Method offers great tools for a better understanding of the biomechanics of the tissues and of the interaction between the human body and medical devices. Objectives: Perform a literature review of the state-of-art of the subject, identifying the most relevant parameters such as material models and validation methods. Develop with the support of CAE engineers an accurate model of a medical device and of a specific body part using open source segmentation software and analytical method. Validate the model by comparing the FE-models with test cases from the literature and customer data. Recommend optimization for the medical device in terms of design, settings, applications.
