Senior Project Presentation November 21, 2013

Introduction and Interest Grabber Introduce yourself to the judges Tell a CLEAN joke Share an alarming statistic Reveal a little known fact 30 seconds

Topic Details What is your topic? Explain why you chose it. What is your research paper about? What is your product? What is the connection between the two? Make an emotional tie Get the judges to want you to succeed 2-3 minutes

How about a transition here?

Research and Product A few good, meaty details from your research that is not common knowledge It is important to explain, in detail, the stages of development of your product. ***Procrastination is not an obstacle!! 3-4 minutes…at least. This is the most important aspect of your speech. The judges most look forward to hearing about your product and its process. Never put this many words on your slides. You should not have more than 7 lines of text. Less is More….

Good place for another smooth transition.

Mentor Who is he/she? Why did you choose this person? What qualifications does this person have? 30 seconds to 1 minute

This is a tough time to make one, but you will need to make a transition here.

Reflection About the topic… About yourself… Senior Project/Real World Application Keep it positive 1 minute

Manners and Questions Conclude your presentation without using the words “conclude” or “conclusion.” Offer the judges a chance to ask you questions (they will ask anyway). This shows you are complete. Thank the judges for time and attention after the question and answer session.

Pointers Less is better. Keep words to a minimum on visual aid. Consider using alternates to powerpoint…photostory, prezi, etc. Have a visual aid in multiple formats. SAVE. SAVE OFTEN. SAVE IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE. USE THE SAVE BUTTON. Check room earlier than the day before presentation.

Dress Code-Gentlemen: NO Jewelry- no earrings or visible piercings. No visible tattoos, either. Pressed shirts and slacks, tie. Socks should match your pants or shoes- no white socks. A sportcoat or suit jacket would be awesome! Wear a belt, with your pants at your waist. Belt and shoes should be same color, but not absolutely necessary.

Ladies- Dress Code: No see-through blouses, too tight garments, NO LOW CUT TOPS-EVER! Skirts should be at the knee. Tasteful accessories-small simple (boring) jewelry. Do not over do it by wearing too many pieces. One or two will do. Do not wear heels that are extremely high. Platforms are NOT professional unless your profession involves a pole. Three-inch heel is the MAX.

Dress in “Interview” Attire

PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE You are not professional speakers, so PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH. MEMORIZE AS MUCH OF YOUR SPEECH AS POSSIBLE. PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH. AND WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH!
