Presentation transcript:

Physical Environment and Culture How does our environment shape our culture

Think of ways we adapt to our physical environment

Adaptations to Cold Climate Inuit live in the high Arctic and are able to survive in an environment without many of the things we depend on in the south They adapted strategies for housing, food (depending on blubber) and clothing

Adaptations to Hot Climates The Bedouin are a nomadic people who live in the deserts of the Middle East Cultural adaptations include: loose and light clothing and need to be nomadic so as not to overtax any resources or deplete water supplies

Cultural Adaptations What are the positive and negative impacts of technology on groups like the Inuit and Bedouin cultures? What environmental factors can you observe today that anthropologists will likely study in the future?
