THE PARTHENON, ATHENS UNESCO CHRYCI TSAROUCHA

The Parthenon was a temple dedicated to Athena, the goddess of wisdom The Parthenon was a temple dedicated to Athena, the goddess of wisdom. This important masterpiece temple and other monuments were built on the Acropolis hill during the 5th century BC and they show how important the culture was that period. About 2.000.000 tourists visit the Parthenon each year! All these tourists, air pollution and acid rain damage some parts of the monument. Unesco is a organisation that protects the Parthenon and other significant monuments. Unesco trains staff and offers money to preserve this temple. This organisation also imforms people about the importance of that monument so that visitors respect and protect it. Last but not least, it fights for the return of the Parthenon‘s marbles back to their home, Greece!
