Lesson 4 Electricity Part 3

Symbols to Represent Different Electrical Components.

The electric circuit can be easily represented by the circuit diagram as shown above. A battery, a switch, and a bulb that are connected with connecting wires form a simple circuit. When the switch is closed, the circuit forms a complete circuit around which a current flows.

Series Circuit When two bulbs are connected next to each other in a circuit, they are said to be in a series. The current flows through the bulbs in a single path. There are no branches in the circuit.

Parallel Circuit When bulbs are connected separately to the same terminals of a battery, they are said to be connected in parallel. The current from the battery flows through the three bulbs in three separate paths. There are three branches in this circuit.
