Proposal for the CJK NGN Test-bed Activity October 10-12, 2007 TTC (KDDI: Hideaki YAMADA)

Topics Current testing schedule of the CJK test-bed issues. Proposals from SDOs in the CJK 9th NGN WG Meeting April 9-11 2007, Jeju,Korea. Proposal for the performance evaluation scenario which is indicated in the Phase III testing of the CJK test-bed. 2

Current testing schedule Scenario 1: Single Call Server within a single NGN Network Domain without PSTN Scenario 2: Call Servers across multiple IP Network Domains without PSTN Scenario 3: Single Call Server within a single NGN Network Domain with PSTN Scenario 4: Call Servers across multiple NGN Network Domains with PSTN Scenario 5: Call Servers across multiple NGN Network Domains with PSTN & Value Added Services Scenario 6: Performance Evaluation Scenario 7: Call Servers across multiple NGN Network Domains with PSTN, Value Added Services and RACF Involvement Phase I: 2006 3rd/4th Quarter Network Connectivity Senario1 only (Feb. 26 ~ Mar. 2) First Report/Demo during 9th CJK NGN Meeting (April 2007) Phase II: 2007 1st/2nd Quarter Scenario 2 ~ 4 (Feb. 26 ~ Mar. 2) Second Report/Demo during 9th CJK NGN Meeting (April 2007) Phase III: 2007 3rd/4th ~ 2008 1st/2nd Quarter Scenario 5 ~ 7 Testing details will further be defined depending on the technology availability status Third Report/Demo 11th CJK NGN Meeting 3

Need budget support for more meaningful tests Collaboration opportunities with other Testing Programs? (In Korea, we have BcN test-bed. What about others?) Issue on performance management How do we co-relate end-to-end QoE to individual network segment performance? For network design and resource planning For fault localization and rerouting For feedback to session admission at session establishment For feedback to bandwidth change during a session (main interest) Assumption Real time traffic, measurement basis, and passive measurement Most sessions of multimedia services over IP-based networks use RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) => RTP traffic and RTCP(RTP Control protocol) -based mechanism Technical issues Correlation between end-to-end and network segment performance results Efficiency and accuracy of performance estimation, e.g., minimizing RTCP flows and accuracy of estimation Effectiveness of measurement-based bandwidth control 7

Proposal We propose a test-bed study that addresses the performance evaluation issue referred to in the Phase III testing of the CJK test-bed (2007 3rd/4th ~ 2008 1st/2nd Quarter). ●Study items Feasibility tests of the measurements and management of the U-plane information (QoE/QoS information) for RACF. Measurement of the QoS (network performance) information of each network segment using RTP/RTCP based passive measurement. Collection and management of the QoE information which is estimated at the TEs by the network nodes (Border Gateways (BG)) using RTCP packets. Tests of the accuracy of the QoS information measured and refresh interval of the management of the QoE/QoS information. Model: Bidirectional unicast connection which includes 2 RTP endsystems TE A and TE B connected through 2 RTP translators BG 1 and BG 2. 8

Proposal (continued) ●Schedule ●Discussions ~2008.3: Creation of an environment for a test-bed; networks, prototype system for passive measurements based on Y.mpm. KDDI is developing prototype systems and checking an arrangement of international networks for this test-bed. 2008.3~: Testing RTP applications such as VoIP, VoD, Network games (with multimedia), etc. ●Discussions What will be the test items and steps? What features would be implemented in this prototype system? Who will host and provide the testing facility? etc. 9
