Implementation Scenario of QoS standard in Korea Hans (Hyungsoo) Kim KT corp.

2 Contents Introduction Relative Standards How to be implemented
Future collaboration among three countries

3 Introduction Standard bodies have developed QoS standards
How to be implemented into real field ?

4 Relative Standards Focusing on FG NGN works,
TR-NGN.QoS, TR-NGN.NHNperf., TR-e2eqos, TR-123qos, TR-ipaqos and TR-RACS are considered Regarding on Other standards, G.1000 & G.1010 (SG 12) Y.1540, Y.1541 & Y.1560 (SG 12)

5 Relative Standards – SG 12

6 Relative Standards – FG NGN
Functional Architecture for RACS Application Functions RACF Transport Functions CPE NAAF Functions in other domains

7 Relative Standards – SG 12
Architecture for IP signaling Application & QoS Requirements Perceived Classes & Decisions Design/ Eng . Provisioning QoS Mech Reports ( SLAs ) Cnfg .Choices Feedback Monitoring User Terminal Equip Network Request ACK/REJ/Mod Result Network(s) UNI NNI

8 How to be implemented Here is the application requiring Guaranteed QoS
How to identify ‘Application & QoS requirement’? How to be controlled through Service/Network Stratum? What kinds of further details should be requested ? Applications Service Stratum Transport Stratum NGN Configuration

9 Application & QoS requirements
G.1010 (SG 12) Performance requirements for particular applications If new applications appear or different performance requirements are required, new performance requirements should be specified Medium Application Degree of symmetry Typical data rates Key performance parameters and target values One-way delay Delay variation Information loss Other Audio Voice messaging Primarily one-way  4-32 kb/s < 1 sec for playback < 2 sec for record < 1 msec < 3% High quality streaming audio Primarily one-way kb/s < 10 sec < 1% Video Videophone Two-way kb/s < 150 msec preferred <400 msec limit Lip-synch : < 80 msec

10 Application & QoS requirements
Different value of applications for Providers Application Value level Low High VoIP Web-phone for free SIP phone for business purpose VoD Outside from the provider Supported by the provider P-to-P Flat-rate charging users Usage-based charging users Web-surfing News portal site Registration/booking site When user request Application itself : Don’t need to follow G.1010 !! When user request QoS itself : The burden of processing is too much !!

11 Application QoS classes
AQC makes the engineering easier and more efficient !! Network QoS classes NQC 1 NQC 2 NQC 3 NQC 4 . Application QoS classes AQC 1 AQC 2 AQC 3 AQC 4 . Application Requirement VoIP by web-phone VoIP for stringent QoS (i.e. 80 ms, 0 Loss) QoS requirement Simplified QoS requirement for Network Engineering (i.e. Call Control, QoS control, Network Control, Traffic Engineering)

12 Performance Parameter Nature of Network Performance Objective
Network QoS classes Y.1541 covers UNI-UNI for IP service In optical transmission, 100 ms delay is achieved in less than 4,000 Km Based on the distance and complexity of link, it should be modified Performance Parameter Nature of Network Performance Objective Class 0 Class 1 Class 2 Class 3 Class 4 Class 5 Class 6 Class 7 IPTD Upper bound on the mean IPTD 100 ms 400 ms 1 s U IPDV Upper bound on the quantile of IPTD minus the minimum IPTD 50 ms IPLR Upper bound on the packet loss probability 1*10-3 1*10-5 IPER Upper bound 1*10-4 1*10-6 Core Network Access Network TE/CPN User Network QoS Edge Application QoS UNI Added in Feb. of 2005

13 Performance Objectives
Network QoS classes In Korea, the longest link is less than 600 km and has 8 routers End-to-end performance objectives are allocated as follows; Based on the above apportionment, more details are allocated as follows; Network QoS classes Performance Objectives IPTD IPDV IPLR QoS guaranteed class < 25 ms < 30 ms 10-6 Best efforts class Unspecified End-to-end Core Access IPTD < 25 ms < 7 ms < 9 ms IPDV < 30ms < 10 ms < 10ms IPLR < 10-6 < 2 x 10-7 < 4 x 10-7

14 Conclusion For the end-to-end QoS control, Application QoS Classes concept is useful to cooperate with Network QoS classes AQC is developing in TR-NGN.QoS of FG NGN WG3 Network QoS classes should be allocated / extended, based on the each country's and provider’s network (distance and complex)
