DEMOGRAPHICS NOTES

Population The total number of people living in a location.

Doctors The number of doctors working within a location per 100,000 population

Infant Mortality The number of babies (1 year or younger) who die, compared to every 1000 births

Population Density The average number of people living in a square mile Used to find out how crowded an area would be

Per Capita Income The average amount of money each person earns in a year

Total Area The total number of square miles in a given area

Literacy Rate The percentage of people who can read and write in a given area

Life Expectancy The average number of years a person can expect to live in a given area

Percent Rural Percent of people living in the countryside

Percent Urban Percent of people living in the city

Extended Family A family in which more than 2 generations reside or live in the same home

Nuclear Family Parents and children living in one home

Birth Rate Number of babies born per 1000 people in a population

Death Rate Number of deaths per every 1000 people in a population
