2 Chapter 7 test The 2016 test has 49 multiple choice questions and 2 FRQs with multiple parts. Work quickly! P 1 B 2 E 3 A 4 E 5 C 6 E 7 C 8 C 9 D 10 D 11 of the questions involve age structure diagrams or the demographic transition model.

3 How do you determine a population’s growth rate?

4 How do you determine a population’s growth rate
How do you determine a population’s growth rate? Count the number of people that were born, died, emigrated and immigrated and compare that to the number of people which existed the previous year.

5 Determine the population growth rate if there were 20,000 people living on Catalina in 2012 and in babies were born, 50 people died, 5 people immigrated to the island and 3 people emigrated from the island.

6 Determine the population growth rate if there were 20,000 people living on Catalina in 2012 and in babies were born, 50 people died, 5 people immigrated to the island and 3 people emigrated from the island. 100 births+ 5immigrants – 50deaths -3emigres = an increase of 52 people 52 people/20,000 people = 0.26% growth rate 20,052 – 20,000 x = 0.26% 20,000

7 If Catalina has a 0.25% growth rate, how many years will it take the population to double?

8 If Catalina has a 0.25% growth rate, how many years will it take the population to double?
Use the rule of 70: 70/0.25 = 280 YEARS

9 Define the following: Crude Birth Rate, Crude Death Rate, the Total Fertility Rate and Replacement Level Fertility CBR = CDR = TFR = RLF =

10 Define the following: Crude Birth Rate, Crude Death Rate, the Total Fertility Rate and Replacement Level Fertility CBR = Number of births per 1000 people CDR = Number of deaths per 1000 people TFR = Average number of children each woman will have RLF = Number of children each couple must have to prevent the population from declining. (2.1 in U.S.)

11 Give a reasonable RLF for a developed country and a developing country.

Give a reasonable RLF for a developed country and a developing country. Developing 3, Developed 2.1

13 Calculate the population growth rate of the world if the CDR is 8 and the CBR is 20.

14 Calculate the population growth rate of the world if the CDR is 8 and the CBR is 20.
World population growth rate = (CBR-CDR) divided by 10 Divide by 10 because CBR and CDR are per 1000 people. (20-8) divided by 10 = 1.2 percent.

15 If the world’s human population is growing at a 1
If the world’s human population is growing at a 1.2% rate, how long will it take for the world’s population to double?

16 If the world’s human population is growing at a 1
If the world’s human population is growing at a 1.2% rate, how long will it take for the world’s population to double? Use the Rule of 70 to calculate doubling time. 70/1.2 = 58 years
