First Grade News September 12, 2016 – September 16, 2016 Coming Up: *As soon as our beginning of year testing is over, I will be sending home books with your child to read. *We will be going to the library every week from now on so please make sure your child returns their book to their backpack after reading it with you so they have it here when we go to get new books. *Progress reports will be coming home Thursday. Please sign and return them. I will send it back to you once I see that you signed it. What We’re Learning… *Reading- setting up Reader’s Workshop and literacy stations, practicing “turn and talk” to your neighbor about our book *Writing- setting up Writer’s Workshop and our Writer’s Notebook *Math- Addition and subtraction to 10 using number bonds (more info on the back of this newsletter) *Social Studies- constitution week and rules Reminders: *We are still working on routines and discipline in our classroom. It is so important to start out strong in the beginning. Thanks for your help! *If your child does not have head phones at school, please send them this week. *Please make sure your child has appropriate shoes each day for PE. *Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school. *Homework is due on Friday! –attached to this newsletter.
