LEGAL CITATION

WHAT IS CITATION? A citation is a way of giving credit to individuals for their creative and intellectual works that you utilized to support your research. Typically, a citation can include the author's name, date, location of the publishing company, journal title, or DOI (Digital Object Identifer).

PURPOSE OF CITATION provide the reader with sufficient information to find the document or document part to which the writer is referring furnish important additional information about the referenced material and its connection to the writer’s argument to assist readers in deciding whether or not to pursue the reference. Source: Peter w. MARTIN, Introduction to basic legal citation

WHY CITE? To let the readers find the document you use in your research. To build credibility of your works (especially scholarly peer-reviewed sources) and show that your ideas are shared by other scholars. To avoid plagiarism! To properly give credit to the original author.
