Welcome to Robin Class! ‘Be the best that you can be’ The EYFS Framework Nursery Routines Home Visits Practicalities

The Early Years Foundation Stage The classes in early years – nursery and reception - follow the EYFS framework The Early Years Foundation Stage There are 7 areas of learning and development: Prime areas: 1.Communication and Language 2. Physical development 3. Personal, social and emotional development Specific areas: 4. Literacy 5. Mathematics 6.Expressive arts and design 7. Understanding of the world

The Nursery provides opportunities for learning in all these areas. Children learn through planned and purposeful play. a balance of child-initiated and adult-directed activities. Every day there is a focus activity with an adult either one to one or in small groups A range of activities inside and outside. We choose a theme or topic for the week which may be linked to specific books and plan activities around the topic. This is put on our notice board every week. Our rhyme for the week is also on the board. Please help your child to learn the rhyme. The weekly topics and medium term plans are on the website class page.

Specific area – Literacy Understanding story structure and joining in with rhymes. Giving meaning to mark making – painting, drawing, writing letters of their name. Awareness of story structure and describing the events and characters. Specific area – Literacy Handling books carefully, independently and the right way up. Giving meaning to marks

Specific area - Mathematics Solving number problems Exploring shape, space and measure Showing and interest in number through play. Using shapes to make a picture counting objects to 10

Exploring a range of materials and media Specific area – Expressive arts and design Experimenting with sounds and instruments. Exploring a range of materials and media Using construction materials Engaging in imaginary play

Specific area – Understanding the World Natural world Butterflies emerging Growing plants Using technology- computers, i-pads and beebots

Nursery Routine Self registration Hang up coats, put water bottles and book bags in the boxes Self-initiated play Registration/learning time Snack table on offer all session-milk/water/fruit Free-flow with focused activities in and out Mid session circle time – story, songs, power points, Story/singing/reflection on learning and preparation for home Lunch and Quiet Time

Library day On Wednesday children can borrow a book from the school library which must be returned the following week. Parents can write in the yellow book any comments about how the child enjoyed the book. Wow moments Parents can write down something which your child has achieved or done extremely well which can then be read to the class. Golden leaves If your child has done something really well in school he/she will be awarded a golden leaf which is stuck on the golden leaf tree. A certificate is then taken home.

Please name your child’s belongings clearly!

Over the summer please help your child with…. Toilet training and washing hands Putting on/taking off their own coats Blowing noses and putting tissues in bin Being independent!
