Michelangelo 1475-1564  Michelangelo was one of the major Renaissance artists, creating work both as a painter and a sculptor. He is best known for his realistic marble and stone carved sculptures (such as “The David”) and his ceiling painting of the Sistine Chapel. His works are highly realistic, detailed, and expressive of the human form.

Henry Moore 1898 –1986 Moore was an English artist and sculptor best known for his abstract monumental cast bronze sculptures which are located around the world as public works of art. His forms are usually abstractions of the human figure, typically depicting mother-and-child or reclining figures.

Options… Full body Must be able to stand or sit requiring both visual and physical balance

Bust– Only the shoulders up. This creates a larger more detailed option for the creation of a head, but has it’s own structural challenges – hollow yet stable and strong

Possibilities… Mask– Only the head. Must still be three-dimensional, but this would be a RELIEF scultpure. How can you make a mask with added details and make is strong enough to not break when lifted up?
