GCSE SPORTS: Team and Individual Lists

Moderation Process of practical performance Date is arranged for moderation to take place with the moderator Deadline: 15th May (A Level) and 31st May (GCSE) March to May School to send of marks (no later than 2 weeks prior to moderation) Moderator selects a sample of students to moderate 10 students across a range of activities (top scoring performer, bottom scoring performer and a range of students in between) Past moderations: Agreeing marks on the day, check staff assessments, performance not in question Current moderation is performance assessed (via Live, DVD or mixture) School need to make an audio-visual recording of live performance Moderation of performance analysis assessments will be sent for the same students (10%) August Results are issued at GCSE RESULTS DAY!!!!! (Differs from last previous cohort) Opportunity to query results

Assessment Formats Some schools are: Hosting ALL live performances Coordinating ALL DVD NESTON: Excellent grades and feedback from previous live moderations We can facilitate 3 sports in school Mixture of live/DVD will help students achieve best grades

Meeting with Ross Howitt: (Lead moderator for AQA) Changes are from The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) and DfE. Filming students in full context Student performances will be marked, not their ability!!! PE staff will film as much as possible in relation to school fixtures Parents and carers/support (club fixtures) To support footage: Supplementary evidence (fixture details, introduction from students, opposition, standard of fixture) will help put performance in context but will not influence marks Script can be sent

Advice: Team sports Footage of adequate length to justify marks awarded Can be two halves of separate games Film as many fixtures as possible Performer in sight at all times (player cam) Film the outcome of pass, cross, shot and then pan back to student (technique can be subjective) High quality competitive games will bring out the best in performances as they are challenging situations for student If filming core skills: ensure all are recorded and not missed = missed marks Footage has to be continuous, if playing keep camera on!! Can not be edited (Issue with badminton!!!) Location of camera depends upon position of the player!!!!

Advice: Individual sports: Full context Golf Camera to follow player, can not be edited. Camera off in between holes Score card, signed by witness, club pro etc. Does not have to be against another player Skiing Students should perform two timed runs on appropriately challenging slopes against the clock. Indoor snow zone around 10 poles or on an outdoor slope. If outdoor, the colour of the run chosen should be appropriate to the level of ability of the performer. Swimming 2 full competitive swims against opposition Doesn’t matter if they lose as student could achieve their PB.

In summary Students should be performing in a challenging and competitive situation

Awarding Grades OUTCOMES Moderator will observe live performances and DVD footage and will award marks. Grades awarded are subjective: There are always going to be differences from the school assessment and moderators assessment A small tolerance is allowed on the internal assessment between NHS and moderator If the difference in grades are outside the tolerance a proportional adjustment is made to all students practical grades!!! OUTCOMES Provide suitable evidence to support grades awarded Guide students to clubs and eXL to help practical scores Guide students to the importance of theoretical side of the course

Support Continue to assess and prepare students for drills and skills Film as many fixtures as possible Purchased ICT equipment: Equipment Loan Agreement form Consent letter Cameras Go Pro’s and harness Tri-pods Academic Support (70% of overall grade) Additional support throughout year (Workshops) Revision sessions Parental Support Book equipment from PE: email: (First come, first serve) itservices@nestonhigh.com
