2 Course Overview Theory Non-Exam Assessment
Section 1: Applied Anatomy & Physical Training Assessment: 1 hour paper (60 marks) 30% of GCSE Anatomy & Physiology Exercise Physiology Methods of training and maximising performance 1. Practical Assessment (30%) Assessment: On-going practical assessment 30% of GCSE Assessed in 3 activities One from the ‘individual’ list, one from the ‘team’ list, and one other from either list 2. NEA Project (10%) Assessment: Analysis and Evaluation of Performance 10% of GCSE 14 hour written/typed up task Create an action plan to develop an area of weakness for an individual Section 2: Sports Psychology & Socio-Cultural Issues Socio-cultural influences Sports Psychology Health, fitness and well-being Skeletal and muscular system Cardiovascular system Respiratory system Responses to aerobic and anaerobic exercise Short and long term effects of exercise on the body Diet and nutrition Levers Movement analysis Components of fitness Principles and optimisation of training Prevention of injury Physiological effects of warming up and cooling down Mental preparation Guidance and feedback Long term emotional and social effects of participation in sport Characteristics of skilful movement Classification of skills Goal setting Factors affecting participation Commercialisation of sport Ethics Drugs Violence

3 ‘Individual’ Activities
Practical Assessment One from the ‘team’ list, one from the ‘individual’ list, and one other from either list in fully competitive situations Pupils are assessed (out of a total of 20 marks) as a performer in three activities under four main aspects of performance in training and in fully competitive situations; Range of Skills Quality of Skills Physical Attributes Decision Making ‘Team’ Activities ‘Individual’ Activities

5 FAQ’s Is PE an easy option? What sports should I choose?
Most definitely not As with all GCSE subjects there is a significant amount of work to study Pupils need to have a keen interest in all aspects of sport and how a wide range of social and scientific factors influence it What sports should I choose? We will help assist you select the 3 highest scoring sports to be assessed in, this includes mock assessment of a range of activities to find the best profile for you. Although you should ensure that you are capable and competent in at least 2 sports from the lists shown this evening.
